President Barack Obama established the Materials Genome Initiative to accelerate discovery and commercialization of advanced materials, position the U.S. for global manufacturing leadership and create high-value jobs in manufacturing.
The President’s Office of Science and Technology (OSTP) contacted Rice last summer and requested that Rice hold a regional workshop on advanced materials focused on oil and gas and aerospace.
The objective of the workshop is the development of a road map in the form of a white paper for surmounting the advanced materials challenges in both sectors.
